Gianpiero Strisciuglio appointed CEO of Italy's Ferrovie dello Stato

The shareholders' assembly of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) appointed a new three‑year board (2026‑2028) and confirmed Tommaso Tanzilli as president. Gianpiero Strisciuglio, a 50‑year‑old engineer from Bari who has spent more than 25 years inside the FS group, was named chief executive officer and director general. The refreshed board also includes Pietro Bracco, Franco Fenoglio, Silvia Marzot, Loredana Ricciotti and Daniela Rota.

Strisciuglio’s career has covered RFI, Mercitalia Logistics and Trenitalia, where he oversaw high‑speed services and the launch of the new Frecciarossa 1000. Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini praised the “internal resource” and highlighted the need for continuity ahead of the 2027 elections. The new leadership inherits a network with about 1,300 active construction sites, roughly 10,000 daily train movements and a punctuality record of 79.6 % for high‑speed services. Their immediate tasks include appointing the heads of Trenitalia and RFI and advancing the PNRR‑funded modernization programme.
