Italian student in coma after assault in Barcelona

Nicola Maggiotto, a 21-year-old from Asolo, remains in a coma at Hospital del Mar in Barcelona following a violent assault outside a nightclub. The incident occurred during the night between August 13 and 14 at the Sea Sea Beach bar-discotheque.

Medical reports indicate that while Maggiotto's intracranial pressure is stable and the immediate risk of death appears to have passed the acute phase, his neurological prognosis remains uncertain. He has suffered significant cerebral hematomas, including a coup-contrecoup injury, which may have resulted from the initial blow to the back of his head or from hitting the ground after being struck.

Barcelona police (Mossos d'Esquadra) are investigating the brawl, which involved a group of approximately twelve people who fled before authorities arrived. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the venue and surrounding public and private cameras to identify the attackers. A friend who attempted to intervene was also assaulted during the incident.
