Italian students face rising transport costs and new schedules

As the new school year begins in various Italian regions, families are facing challenges regarding public transportation. In the province of Crotone, students and families are dealing with increased costs for local public transport following regional fare hikes that took effect on May 1.

In Crotone, a 90-minute single ticket rose from 1.50 to 1.80 euros. More significant increases were noted on extra-urban routes; for example, the trip from Isola di Capo Rizzuto to Crotone saw single tickets rise by approximately 28%, from 1.80 to 2.30 euros. Monthly passes for the same route increased by about 14%, rising from 48 to 54.50 euros.

In the Amalfi Coast region, a new schedule for the “Sitino” service—a dedicated transport line for students from Positano and Praiano to Meta—is set to begin on September 15. This service is designed to provide a direct connection to educational institutes, separating student commuters from the heavy seasonal tourist flows that often overcrowd standard Sita lines.
