Italian workation demand surges as remote‑work rentals rise 69%
Remote‑work holidays, known as "workation", are becoming a notable segment of Italy's summer housing market. A study by the SoloAffitti research centre shows that requests for properties equipped for remote work have increased by 69 % over the past three years. More than half (55 %) of these requests are for stays of at least one month, often covering the whole summer season. The majority of seekers (62 %) are solo professionals or students, while families account for the remaining 38 %.
Key amenities now top the list: air‑conditioning is required by almost all respondents, followed by private outdoor spaces such as balconies or gardens, and reliable Wi‑Fi, which 38 % consider essential. Other sought‑after features include quiet rooms, flexible lease lengths and proximity to services. Industry observers note that workation remains a niche, but its growth signals a broader shift in how Italians combine leisure and work during the vacation months.
