Italy's July 2026 summer season features major dance events in Rome, Palermo and Tharros
The Teatro dell’Opera di Roma presents the ballet Romeo and Juliet at the Circo Massimo on 24‑25 July 2026, directed by Eleonora Abbagnato with music by Sergei Prokofiev and starring Susanna Salvi and Michele Satriano.
In Naples, the XX edition of the Movimentale festival continues at the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte on 23‑24 July, showcasing site‑specific works by Emma Cianchi and Linus Jansner inspired by paintings in the museum’s collection.
Palermo’s Teatro Massimo hosts two major programmes: a Gran Gala of tango and contemporary dance directed by Jean‑Sébastien Colau, and a three‑day piano series by Alessandro Taverna (24‑26 July) featuring works by Chopin, Rachmaninov, Gershwin and Bernstein.
Matera’s National Museums present “Nyumbani” by the Descendants dance company on 30‑31 July, a performance that blends Afro‑urban dance, hip‑hop and poetry to explore cultural identity.
Finally, the international “La Grande Danza” festival opens in the ancient amphitheatre of Tharros on 23 July with “Felliniana”, an homage to Federico Fellini by Artemis Danza, followed by a series of concerts and contemporary dance works through early August.
