Italian supply chain firms prioritize risk monitoring and simulation

Research from the Politecnico di Milano Supply Chain Planning Observatory indicates that while 96% of Italian companies monitor supply chain risks, only 20% do so through continuous and systematic processes. The primary concerns for businesses include geopolitical instability and tariffs (65%), demand volatility (57%), and logistical disruptions (49%).

To mitigate these uncertainties, 80% of companies are working to enhance their simulation and scenario analysis capabilities. Strategies include identifying alternative suppliers (62%), diversifying procurement sources (59%), and revising inventory management policies (54%). Although artificial intelligence is being explored, with 48% of companies running pilot projects, only 25% have fully operational AI projects, largely due to a lack of internal expertise.

In connection to these industry shifts, the Supply Chain Edge Italy event is scheduled for October 21, 2026, in Milan. Organized by the CSCMP Italy RoundTable, the conference will feature over 20 speakers discussing digital transformation, sustainability, and the role of AI in logistics, including case studies from companies such as Valeo, Stellantis, and Accenture.
