Italian Swimmers Gear Up for Paris European Championships
National junior artistic swimming championships continued in Savona, Italy, with 281 athletes competing over four days. Notable performances included Giulia Ottonello of Rari Nantes Savona winning the compulsory round and the Fiamme Oro duo Sarah Maria Rizea and Flaminia Vernice taking the women's free duo title.
In Rome, senior swimmers used a test meet to sharpen form ahead of the European Championships in Paris. Benedetta Pilato recorded a 30.17‑second 50‑metre breaststroke, while Emma Virginia Menicucci posted a 54.17‑second 100‑metre freestyle, raising expectations for the Italian relay squad.
The open‑water national team for the Paris event has been announced. Gregorio Paltrinieri, Ginevra Taddeucci, Linda Caponi and other athletes will contest 5‑km, 10‑km, 3‑km knockout and mixed relay races on the Seine between 4 and 8 August. The staff, led by coordinator Stefano Rubaudo, will support the squad as they prepare for the European open‑water competition.
