Italian swing orchestra The Italian Society releases debut single 'We Are Italians

A new Italian swing orchestra called The Italian Society debuted on 7 August with the original single “We Are Italians”, released on all digital platforms. The project, produced and composed by Diego Buongiorno, features an ensemble of about 25 musicians and three lead vocalists – Coky Ricciolino, Frankie Micheli and Gabrio Gentilini.

The launch includes guest appearances by renowned Italian bassist Saturnino and British saxophonist‑singer Ray Gelato, who praised the group’s chemistry and the blend of classic swing with contemporary interpretation. The orchestra aims to make music for its own sake, drawing on Rat‑Pack style and a “golden‑age” swing aesthetic while avoiding nostalgia.

Quotes from the guests highlight the philosophy: “Music is made, not feared,” says Saturnino, and Ray Gelato adds that recording the track was “a great pleasure” and that the musicians are “extraordinary and full of talent.”
