Italy updates teacher assignment rules, school hiring and meal registration for 2026
The Comune di Galatina published the final rankings for its 2025 public competitions, confirming ten permanent full‑time positions across three profiles: Socio‑Assistential Officer, Legal‑Administrative Officer and Administrative‑Accounting Instructor.
For the 2026‑2028 school year, the national GPS (Graduatorie di Posizione Scolastica) system has transmitted lists of teachers who did not submit the required 150‑preference request by the July 29 deadline. Those teachers remain in the GPS pool but are excluded from the standard GPS allocation for 2026/27; they may still receive temporary or paritary school assignments. A separate guidance note explains how teachers who have already secured a role can withdraw their 150‑preference request before the algorithm runs in August, freeing the position for other candidates.
The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Economy and Finance authorized 365 new appointments of school directors for the 2026/27 academic year, short of the 382 positions originally requested. Sixty percent of the slots will be filled through the ordinary competition, with the remainder allocated via a reserved procedure.
Naples opened registrations for the 2026/27 school meal service, requiring families to select a diet type (ordinary, standardized, or personalized) at the time of application. The municipality will verify declared ISEE and Law 104 data through INPS and ANPR systems.
A commentary from an Italian teachers' association highlighted growing concerns about teacher motivation, noting the increasing workload and the need for educators to reconnect with the purpose of their profession.
