Italian teachers get new substitute lists and deadline to resolve reserve status

After weeks of protests by temporary teachers (Mad) in Rome, the city council approved provisional municipal lists to recruit substitute teachers. The new lists will rank candidates by titles and years of service rather than application date, and teachers can apply to municipal registers starting 1 August. The agreement was reached by the education assessor Claudia Pratelli and union representatives from CISL‑FP, UIL‑FPL, CSA, and the RSU of Rome.

In the southern region of Puglia, the teachers’ union Anief announced that the Ministry’s portal will be open from 15 June to 2 July for precarious teachers to submit their “reserve dissolution” requests. Applicants must confirm the actual teaching periods performed and declare any newly obtained qualification or TFA support title; missing the deadline could freeze or lose their position in the provincial substitute rankings.

Both measures aim to regularise the status of precarious educators and avoid class disruptions caused by staffing shortages.
