Italian teachers respond to new homework assignment regulations

A survey by ‘La Tecnica della Scuola’ reveals mixed reactions among Italian teachers regarding a new ministerial circular from the Ministry of Education. While 73.6% of participating teachers support the initiative to assign homework within school hours, practical challenges have been identified.

The circular encourages teachers to record homework in paper diaries before the end of lessons to prevent assignments being posted on electronic registers late in the evening, during weekends, or on Sundays for Monday deadlines. However, 77.1% of secondary school teachers noted that the vast majority of their students no longer use traditional paper diaries, relying instead on digital tools.

Additionally, 75% of teachers favor the suggestion to coordinate through Class Councils to avoid scheduling multiple tests on the same day.
