Italian teachers secure unpaid leave compensation and expand professional training
In Italy, legal actions and new training initiatives are addressing various aspects of the teaching profession. CISL Scuola Romagna successfully secured over 40,000 euros for 13 teachers to compensate for accrued but unused vacation time. This legal victory covers service periods dating back to 2017, with union representatives emphasizing that these payments represent fundamental economic rights rather than bonuses.
Separately, data from the OECD TALIS 2024 survey, curated by INVALSI, shows that 83% of Italian teachers report that professional learning activities have positively impacted their teaching, significantly higher than the OECD average of 55%. The survey highlights a high demand for training in socio-emotional learning, classroom management, and multicultural teaching. In response to these needs, the Teacher Life Skills program, supported by OSM Education and Investhero, offers free training for educators focusing on empathetic communication, active listening, and personal well-being.
