Italian Team Performs First TAVI Procedure in Mauritania

(Adnkronos) – After ten years of cooperation between Italy and Mauritania, the San Camillo Forlanini Hospital in Rome helped the Centre National de Cardiologie in Nouakchott carry out its first transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The joint effort, described as “training on the job,” involved a multidisciplinary Italian team of cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, anesthetists and nurses who worked alongside local staff.

The operation is part of the Italy‑Mauritania health cooperation programme funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the Institute of Health Cooperation (ICU) and the Lazio Region. It aims to strengthen prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular and non‑communicable diseases through clinical activity, professional training and organisational innovation.
