Montreal National Bank Open disrupted by rain
Heavy rain in Montreal forced the National Bank Open (ATP Masters 1000) to suspend most first‑day matches. Twelve of the scheduled fourteen singles contests were halted, including the opening of Italy’s Matteo Berrettini against Argentina’s Mariano Navone, which was moved to the next day on the outdoor Rogers Court. The downpour also stopped the Nuno Borges – Aleksandar Kovačević match after Borges had taken the first set. Similar weather problems hit the WTA Toronto event, postponing the finals between Jessica Pegula and Alexandra Eala and delaying the men’s final in Washington between Taylor Fritz and Rafael Jodar. Organisers activated rain‑delay protocols, moved players to indoor areas and revised the schedule for Monday, August 3, with many Italian players (Hubert Hurkacz, Lorenzo Sonego, Mattia Bellucci) also awaiting their first‑round matches. Forecasts still call for rain, so further postponements remain possible.
