Italian theaters announce new productions and reopening plans

The Teatro Comunale is preparing for its long-awaited return to Piazza Verdi in 2027, following structural renovations that have kept the historic Sala del Bibiena closed since November 2022. The reopening, themed ‘Verso Itaca’ (Towards Ithaca), is scheduled for February 14, 2027, with a concert conducted by Daniele Gatti. The operatic season will feature Luigi Dallapiccola’s adaptation of Claudio Monteverdi’s ‘Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria’ starting March 2, directed by Daniele Abbado and conducted by Fabio Biondi.

In a related theatrical production, Teatro Civico 14 is launching its 18th season with ‘Di un Ulisse, di una Penelope’, a play by Roberto Solofria based on the text by Marilena Lucente. The performance, starring Solofria and Ilaria Delli Paoli, explores the themes of reunion and the complexities of a husband and wife meeting after twenty years of separation.
