Italian Tourist Killed in Sailing Accident off Lefkada, Greece

A 43‑year‑old Italian tourist died after a sudden shift in weather caused a mast on a sailing vessel to move violently near Lefkada, Greece. The impact struck her head on the deck, and despite the boat’s alarm and rapid docking at the port of Nidri, emergency services could not revive her.

Greek coast‑guard investigators have taken the vessel’s captain into custody on suspicion of negligent homicide while examining whether safety measures were properly observed during the cruise.
