Italian towns Bisceglie and Ortucchio host reading-focused cultural events

In Bisceglie, the “10mila Libri al Borgo” initiative turned the historic centre into Italy’s first Book Town, opening ten free‑exchange libraries. On 25 June chef Pietro Antonino of Osteria del Seminario spoke in Piazza Duomo, sharing stories, anecdotes and recipes tied to regional cuisine while visitors explored the pop‑up book venues.

In Ortucchio, the “Borgo della lettura” network adopted writer Sandro Bonvissuto. The author, known for his novel Dentro, arrived on 27 June to discuss his literary career and the town’s history at Castello Piccolomini, accompanied by the mayor and local officials.

Both events highlight a growing movement in small Italian towns to promote reading and cultural engagement through local personalities and temporary library projects.
