Italian towns call for action on pigeon infestations in public spaces

Residents of Porto San Giorgio have repeatedly reported that the Pinetina Salvadori green area and nearby Via Trieste have fallen into disrepair. Playground equipment was removed, untrimmed hedges block the sidewalk, and a steady feeding of pigeons has led to heavy droppings that make the remaining facilities unusable. Citizens also note an exposed gas meter and overgrown oleander obstructing a cycle path, and they say municipal officials have not responded to their numerous complaints.

In Pesaro, a press release from the Ascoltiamo Pesaro group highlights that Piazza Redi has become unusable due to an uncontrolled pigeon population. Droppings cover pavements, benches and surrounding terraces, creating unsanitary conditions for families, children and the elderly. The group urges the city to undertake an extraordinary cleaning operation and to adopt long‑term measures to curb the bird problem.

Both communities are demanding immediate municipal intervention to restore the hygiene and safety of these public spaces.
