Italian towns commemorate WWII Rom and Sinti genocide and Carnaio massacre

The municipal council of Ginosa approved a resolution formally recognizing the Samudaripen, the genocide of Rom and Sinti carried out under Nazifascism, and set August 2 as an annual Day of Remembrance. The decision followed a school‑based civic education project whose students drafted the proposal and it was endorsed unanimously by the council.

In Bagno di Romagna, local authorities, associations and relatives marked the 82nd anniversary of the Carnaio massacre, where 26 civilians were shot by Italian‑German police on 25 July 1944. The commemoration featured speeches, the laying of an oak‑leaf wreath at the memorial stone and religious services, emphasizing the need to remember the victims and combat indifference.
