Italian towns debate road project safety in Ragusa and Aosta

In Ragusa, Sicily, municipal councilor Sergio Firrincieli criticised a road‑works plan that would force ambulance crews to drive against traffic or over curbs to reach emergencies. He called the proposal "surreal" and urged the city to redesign the 200‑metre bike lane and re‑evaluate the layout, demanding a formal site inspection by the territorial planning commission.

In Aosta, the city council revisited the imminent 370‑day closure of the Côte de Sorre and Signayes tunnels, which link the A5 motorway to state road 27. Mayor Raffaele Rocco announced the formation of a technical working group with the region, police and civil‑protection officials to mitigate traffic disruption and maintain access for emergency vehicles to the Parini hospital. The group reported that peak traffic would increase by roughly 200 vehicles per hour, a level officials said could be managed with adjusted signaling and staggered works.
