Italian towns delay road works and bike lane projects amid resident protests

Until then, the damaged road will remain hazardous, and further work on bridges and a cycle path is only scheduled after the harbour authority finishes its projects.

In the Sardinian district of Bonaria, residents are protesting the recent installation of a new cycling lane on Via dei Colombi. A petition against the lane has gathered more than 4,000 signatures, with locals arguing the lane is under‑used, unsafe, and has narrowed the carriageway, reduced parking spaces, and created traffic bottlenecks. Local officials and shop owners have voiced concern that the changes penalise both commuters and businesses.
