Italian towns demand action on crumbling roads and abandoned projects

Residents of the Germaneto district in Catanzaro say the main road Sp 45 has turned into an open-air dump, with hazardous waste, broken signage and a deteriorating surface, and condemn the “embarrassing silence of the competent institutions.”

In Cosenza’s historic centre, activists from the Comitato Spontaneo Piazza Spirito Santo warn that years of promises have yielded abandoned works, including a five‑million‑euro water‑park, a collapsed riverbank, unfinished escalators and a neglected former brickworks, prompting calls for a public timeline and possible legal action.

Both groups accuse municipal authorities of neglect and demand concrete interventions to restore safety, cleanliness and functionality to their neighborhoods.
