Italian towns deploy photo traps and audio campaigns to curb beach litter

The municipality of Torricella has installed new photo‑traps along its seafront and in inland areas to monitor illegal waste dumping. Mayor Francesco Turco stressed a "zero tolerance" policy, promising that identified offenders will face high administrative fines and further legal action.

In Bari, the regional waste‑management agency Amiu Puglia has launched an audio‑message campaign on the city’s beaches, urging visitors to "leave only footprints" and to dispose of glass, paper, plastic and cigarette butts in proper containers. The initiative, first rolled out at Pane e Pomodoro beach, aims to improve public behavior during the busy summer months and protect the marine environment.

Both measures target the persistent problem of litter on Italy’s coasts and seek to strengthen monitoring, enforcement and public awareness.
