Italian towns enact stricter alcohol bans amid public disorder concerns

The mayor of Livorno, Luca Salvetti, signed an ordinance that prohibits the sale of alcohol for takeaway after 21:00. The measure, urged by councilor Alessandro Palumbo, targets abandoned glass bottles, under‑age sales and street fights involving bottled alcohol.

In Rimini, the municipal government imposed a ban on drinking alcohol in public spaces of the historic centre, effective 24 hours a day until 31 January 2027. The regulation forbids consumption on sidewalks, gardens and benches, with a €50 administrative fine for violators; only the dehor areas of licensed venues are exempt. Both cities say the restrictions aim to curb urban decay, protect residents and visitors, and reduce alcohol‑related disturbances.
