Italian police seize multiple illegal waste dump sites across Veneto and Sicily

The Guardia di Finanza in Treviso seized three large illegal landfills covering thousands of square meters, including a waste site at the gates of Castelfranco where a Moroccan family had been living, a second site in Pieve del Grappa containing appliances, electronic equipment and oil residues, and a third in Fonte hosting abandoned vehicles and an asbestos‑covered structure. The owners were removed to temporary housing and one Italian suspect was also charged with illegal weapon possession.

In Messina, the Polizia Metropolitana conducted coordinated raids that seized two abusive dump sites—one in Taormina and another in Savoca—each packed with ferrous scrap, plastics, cables and other unregistered waste. The operations also intercepted an un‑authorised waste‑transport truck in Montalbano Elicona. Police announced further checks in the region to curb environmental crimes.

Separate local actions reported illegal waste accumulations in Favara, Mazara del Vallo, Lucera (via Ariosto street), Campofilone and Acri, prompting arrests, citizen complaints and plans to expand video‑surveillance. A man was arrested in Alcamo for deliberately feeding flames to a pile of electronic and solid waste, charged with illicit waste burning.
