Italian towns enforce penalties for illegal waste dumping

In the town of Busto Garolfo, local police used surveillance footage to identify a group of youths who littered and damaged a basketball court in Olcella. The mayor, Giovanni Rigiroli, personally helped clean the site, imposed a fine on the identified adult, and initiated a dialogue with the young offenders to promote civic responsibility.

Separately, in Segusino, Carabinieri Forestali discovered a large pile of abandoned waste on a hillside near Via XXIV Maggio. Their investigation traced the dump to an individual, leading the municipal administration to file a criminal complaint with the Treviso Prosecutor’s Office for illegal waste disposal under national environmental law.

Both incidents illustrate Italian municipal authorities' commitment to tackling illegal dumping and encouraging community education alongside enforcement.
