Italian towns expand police patrols and fortify Carabinieri barracks for safety

The municipality of Falconara in Italy approved a new security project that extends local police patrols into the night until 31 December. Two‑officer patrols equipped with breathalysers, drug‑testing devices and a canine unit will operate on major roads, public transport and youth gathering points, aiming to curb drunk‑driving and drug‑related incidents.

In the nearby town of Casola Valsenio, a seismic‑strengthening programme for the Carabinieri barracks is under way, funded with more than €600 000 from civil‑protection resources. The works include reinforced walls, new anti‑seismic connections and upgraded public‑facing facilities. While construction proceeds, the station temporarily moved to the forest‑rangers' headquarters to maintain operational continuity. Both initiatives are intended to improve public safety and emergency readiness at the local level.
