Italian towns face rising sports facility fees and water supply crisis

Mayor Manuela Del Grande of an Italian municipality defended higher tariffs for public sports fields, saying the aim is to keep the facilities open rather than generate profit. She noted the municipality runs an annual deficit of about €130,000 on the venues and that a “share‑cost” approach is needed, adding: “We do not want to make money; we want to save the facilities.”

In the southern city of Crotone, the Democratic Party council demanded concrete steps to resolve a persistent water‑supply emergency that has left neighborhoods without water for weeks. Councilors warned that “water is a fundamental right” and called for a public schedule of works, a network modernization plan, and safeguards for citizens and businesses affected by repeated outages.
