Italian towns grapple with park neglect in Fano and Villa Reimann

Residents of Fano have complained that the city's Passeggi park is in a state of abandonment. A bench has been broken for months, two historic fountains remain dirty or shut down due to leaks, trash accumulates daily, and two‑thirds of the drainage grates are blocked. The municipal waste service empties bins only sporadically, leaving the park poorly maintained.

In Villa Reimann, the Associazione Christiane Reimann sent a formal warning to the municipality in July 2026 over similar neglect. On 3 August a limited mowing, shrub pruning and debris collection were carried out, but the association says the effort is insufficient. It calls for a dedicated maintenance plan, possible use of a portion of the tourism tax, and better staffing allocation, noting that only ten of the twenty green‑area workers were assigned to the 16,000‑m² park for a single day while larger areas received more personnel.

Both cases highlight ongoing concerns about municipal management of public green spaces in Italy.
