Italian towns grapple with public safety after night‑time brawls

In the town of Massa Lombarda in the Bassa Romagna region, an evening dispute between two individuals escalated into a large‑scale brawl that forced families and children to flee the historic centre. Local party Democrazia Cristiana thanked the Carabinieri and police for their response and urged the state to expand the permanent police presence in the area, arguing that the current resources are insufficient for a population of over one hundred thousand.

A similar incident occurred in Barlassina, near Monza, where a confrontation between a Moroccan youth and several Italian youths in Piazza Cavour turned violent. The Carabinieri, assisted by civil‑protection volunteers, restored order; no serious injuries were reported. The opposition group Insieme per Barlassina criticised the mayor for not delivering on election promises to improve security, calling for stronger police patrols.
