Italian towns host innovative community theater festivals in August
From 17 to 31 August, the public gardens of Tonino Trovellesi in Civitanova will host the 113th edition of the international Community Theatre project. Directed by actor Marco Di Stefano and dancer‑choreographer Tanya Khabarova, the initiative invites citizens to create a play without a pre‑written script, using improvisation, music and storytelling. The process culminates in a free public performance on 31 August, aiming to foster civic participation, inclusion and social cohesion.
Meanwhile, the Ferento Teatro Festival in Viterbo continues its 2026 program with a tribute by actor Massimiliano Gallo titled “Letter to Eduardo”. The piece, honoring playwright Eduardo De Filippo, was performed before more than 500 spectators in the historic Roman theatre, accompanied by the Ensemble Napolinord Big Band and singer Carmen Scognamiglio. The festival runs through 19 August, featuring a series of events across the Roman theatre and ancient baths.
