Italian towns implement air quality measures amid pollution concerns

The municipality of Alife in the province of Caserta has closed a 50‑metre stretch of road in its historic centre to curb both atmospheric and acoustic pollution. Local officials say the restriction, enforced by the police, will reduce vehicle emissions and improve residents' health despite longer travel routes for drivers.

In Calabria, the regional agency ARPACAL set up high‑volume air‑sampling stations at a school in Gioia Tauro and a site in Palmi following a fire at the Poly2Oil plant. Over a 24‑hour period the equipment will collect particulate matter for laboratory analysis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and metals, allowing authorities to assess any fallout from the blaze on urban air quality.
