Italian towns increase police crackdowns on illegal cyclists and youth vandalism

In Senigallia, the local police have intensified daily patrols to stop bicycles from entering pedestrian zones along the waterfront. The checks, heightened over recent weeks, have resulted in numerous traffic‑code violations and fines, with officers also advising cyclists to use dedicated bike lanes and warning of collision risks near shop entrances amid growing tourist crowds.

In Salerno, authorities reported a surge of disruptive acts by teenage groups, including the use of fire extinguishers against cyclists and homeless people, kicking scooters, placing skateboards on ambulances, and attempts to smash shop windows. Police, aided by video surveillance, identified several participants—many minors—and have handed them over to their families. The mayor announced additional measures to curb such behaviour and protect public safety.
