Italian towns introduce new waste collection systems

The municipality of Celico activated underground "eco‑islands" on July 1, letting residents deposit waste 24 hours a day with an electronic card. The stations have separate containers for paper, plastic, glass, organic and residual waste, and operate alongside the traditional door‑to‑door service.

In Empoli, the city adjusted its door‑to‑door schedule for July to accommodate increased activity during the "Luglio Empolese" festival. From 2 to 31 July, residents must place waste out by 20:00 the evening before the regular collection day, with specific days assigned for each waste stream.
