Italian towns laud Carabinieri for strengthening local security
Mayor Tania Bocchini of Sogliano al Rubicone thanked Carabinieri commander Toni Piacitelli for his service, describing him as an authoritative and available presence who supported the administration during delicate moments. She highlighted his contributions to promoting legality in schools and noted his 2022 award of the Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for work against crimes targeting the elderly, drug‑clan activity and other offenses.
In Tropea, Mayor Giovanni Macrì expressed gratitude to the Carabinieri for a rapid and effective response to a serious nighttime incident. He warned of a growing problem of violent, uncivil behavior during weekend nights that threatens public safety and the town’s reputation as a tourist destination. Macrì called for heightened vigilance, stronger preventive and repressive actions, and pledged continued municipal support for law‑enforcement efforts.
