Italian towns launch senior wellness and digital ID programs
Petilia Policastro in Calabria has begun an eight‑month project for residents over 60. The programme, organised by the municipality together with the provincial social‑services consortium and the local sports club Asd Siberene, offers regular motor‑activity sessions, excursions and social gatherings to promote active ageing and combat isolation. More than 50 citizens have already enrolled and mayor Simone Saporito praised the initiative, saying, “Seeing such broad participation and enthusiasm makes us proud.”
In Osimo, Marche, the municipal assessor for social services, Paola Andreoni, launched a series of training sessions to teach seniors over 65 how to use the new electronic identity card (CIE). The workshops, held with the CISL Pensioners union and the Red Cross, involved about 50 participants who practiced accessing health records, INPS services and the IO app on their smartphones. Andreoni noted, “The response went beyond expectations – digital literacy is essential for seniors to exercise their rights and stay autonomous.” The effort coincides with the upcoming mandatory switch to electronic ID cards and includes information on organ‑donation choices.
