Italian towns launch youth municipal councils to involve students in local governance

In Orsara di Puglia, the Virgilio Salandra comprehensive school has introduced a new Consiglio Comunale delle Ragazze e dei Ragazzi (Youth Municipal Council), scheduled to meet on 20 May 2026 to give students direct experience with democratic processes.

In Bellaria Igea Marina, the local youth council will participate in an open session of the adult municipal council, joining the assembly at 17:15 and 18:00 for a dedicated meeting. Both initiatives are presented as important steps to bring young people closer to civic participation and local decision‑making in Italy.
