Italian towns open new community sports centers

In Fontanarosa, a new multipurpose sports field was inaugurated on 4 July 2026. The project was a joint effort by the San Nicola Maggiore parish, the social cooperative La Girella and the municipal administration, with funding coming from parish resources, cooperative donations and a municipal contribution. The facility is intended primarily for local youth and was highlighted with a quote from former U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack: “Le persone che lavorano insieme in una comunità forte, con un obiettivo condiviso e uno scopo comune, possono rendere possibile l'impossibile.”

Separately, Campli celebrated the reopening of the historic Arena dei Pini as a modern multisport complex. Renovation work, financed with €700 000 from the national ‘Sport e Periferie’ programme and additional municipal funds, created courts for basketball, football, volleyball, padel and outdoor leisure areas. Management of the centre has been handed to the Campli Basket Academy through 2030, providing a focal point for sport and social activity in the community.
