Italian towns order pool closures and face liability claims over safety issues

The mayor of Tivoli, Marco Innocenzi, issued an order on 24 July prohibiting the use of a private agriturismo pool after an ASL inspection found microbiological parameters outside legal limits. The municipality requires the farm to install a proper recirculation and filtration system before reopening the pool.

In Viterbo, the municipal council has decided to contest a lawsuit seeking €71,318 in damages after a woman was injured at the city’s public swimming pool on 24 June. The claim names the municipality and the pool operator, Fin Plus S.S.D., as joint defendants. The town’s insurance provider will handle the defence, meaning no direct cost to the municipal budget.
