Italian towns Priola and Verbania approve major public facility upgrades

The municipal council of Priola approved a plan to demolish and rebuild the town’s only indoor sports hall. The existing wooden‑structure building suffered severe flood damage in November 2016 and incurs high energy costs, making year‑round use unsustainable. The new arena will be constructed to modern energy‑efficiency and environmental standards, aiming to provide a permanent, all‑season venue for local schools, clubs and residents.

In Verbania, mayor Giandomenico Albertella announced three simultaneous renovation projects at the secondary schools Quasimodo, Ranzoni and Tomassetti. The works address safety, hygiene and comfort improvements, including new windows, upgraded heating and better lighting in dining areas. Funding totals €465,500, with €300,000 coming from the EU’s Next Generation EU programme and the remainder supplied by the municipality.

Both initiatives reflect Italian local governments’ focus on upgrading community infrastructure while reducing operational costs and meeting sustainability targets.
