Italian towns push for stronger security in historic centers

In Sciacca, councilor Alessandro Curreri of the Five Star Movement proposed a coordinated private‑security system for nightlife venues in the historic centre, allowing merchants to offset part of the municipal property tax with the cost of security services. He also suggested better scheduling of musical events, noise‑level coordination and limited free parking for customers who shop in the centre.

In Aversa, opposition councillors Mario De Michele and Agostino Armando Carratù wrote to defence minister Guido Crosetto and interior minister Matteo Piantedosi requesting that the army be deployed to patrol Piazza Vittorio Emanuele under the “Strade Sicure” operation, citing rising night‑time disorder, alcohol‑related incidents and vandalism. The councillors asked for an immediate strengthening of police checks and a technical meeting with the prefecture to draw up a security plan.
