Italian towns push forward with fiber optic rollout amid safety concerns and new voucher program

The municipality of Sassuolo (Italy) held a meeting with FiberCop and the contractor Sielte to address safety, urban décor and site‑cleanup issues arising from ongoing fiber‑optic trenching that will serve 22,000 households. The city has asked the firms to strengthen monitoring, restore streets promptly and share weekly excavation plans, warning that repeated violations could lead to sanctions or revocation of permits.

Separately, Open Fiber announced that its FTTH network is now available in ten Tuscan municipalities, covering more than 26,000 premises. Residents, professionals and businesses that activate a connection by 31 December 2026 can claim a €100 voucher, redeemable for Amazon, MediaWorld, fuel or supermarket gift cards, as part of the “La fibra che ti premia” incentive aimed at narrowing the digital divide and supporting local economic development.
