Italian towns restructure street markets to improve safety and traffic

In Macerata, assessor for commerce Roberto Pantella reopened a stalled plan to reorganise the Saturday market after vendors challenged the project in court. Pantella stressed that security is non‑negotiable, citing police checks on stall locations and merchandise, and called for a rationalised layout that ensures free passage and safer conditions for all traders.

In Trapani, the weekly Thursday market will be moved from piazzale Ilio to the Fontanelle Sud district. The relocation aims to ease traffic congestion near key arteries and to free the current site for a future Bus Rapid Transit interchange. Vendors must apply through the "Impresa in un giorno" portal by July 13, 2026, with temporary permits issued through 2032, ensuring continuity of existing concessions.
