Italian towns roll out summer care programs for seniors and families

In Siena, the Nomos cooperative keeps its Alzheimer workshops and home‑care services open throughout August to help seniors with dementia and their caregivers. Sessions are held at Villa Il Pavone on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and professional staff provide day‑and‑night assistance at home.

The municipality of Policoro has issued two calls for the creation and management of summer centres for children aged 3 to 17. Funded by a ministry grant, the centres will operate from June to September 2026, offering daily care from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with an educator‑to‑child ratio of 1:10 (or 1:1 for children with disabilities). Mayor Enrico Bianco says the initiative aims to give families reliable support while schools are closed for the summer.
