Italian towns tighten sanitation measures amid health concerns

The mayor of Monterotondo, Riccardo Varone, signed an urgent decree on 27 July ordering the municipal waste service to empty all dog‑waste collection bins within 12 hours and to adopt a permanent, intensified emptying schedule, especially between June and September, to prevent foul odors and health risks.

In Civita Castellana, Mayor Danilo Corazza issued Ordinance No. 32 on 24 July after an ASL Viterbo report found Enterococci levels exceeding legal limits. The decree declares the town's tap water non‑potable, restricting its use to household hygiene and personal care while explicitly prohibiting tooth brushing. Despite the ban, local dental clinics continue operating, prompting concerns from municipal officials.

Both measures aim to protect public health and improve urban hygiene in the respective Italian municipalities.
