Italian towns Trappeto and L'Aquila adopt debt‑relief Rottamazione Quinquies

The municipal council of Trappeto approved the town's formal adhesion to the national Rottamazione Quinquies programme, a measure that lets taxpayers settle outstanding municipal debts by paying only the principal amount and notification fees, while cancelling penalties and interest. Mayor Santo Cosentino said the decision shows the administration’s “attention to the community’s financial needs” and praised Budget Assessor Emanuele Bologna for the work done to offer a sustainable repayment tool.

L'Aquila’s council also voted to join the scheme, extending the offer to both tax and non‑tax debts. Mayor Pierluigi Biondi and Budget Assessor Raffaele Daniele described the move as a “balance between supporting contributors in difficulty and protecting the public interest”, noting that the programme can spread payments over up to 72 monthly installments and should reduce costly litigation while improving the city’s fiscal position.
