Italian towns upgrade public housing: shower installed, unit sold

In Montesilvano, a town in the province of Pescara, the municipal administration installed a floor‑level shower in the public housing unit of Lucia De Leonardis and Concetta Del Gaudio after a complaint by the disability association Carrozzine Determinate. Association president Claudio Ferrante said the change restores dignity for Lucia, who is wheelchair‑bound, and praised Mayor Carlo Masci and public building assessor Adelchi Sulpizio for acting without further delay.

In the Sicilian town of Gangi, the municipality completed the sale of a three‑room public housing apartment to longtime resident Giovannino Ferrarola for about €12,000. The transaction, overseen by Mayor Giuseppe Ferrarello and technical architect Giovanni Vena, follows a policy to alienate ERP properties, generate funds for housing renewal and give occupants secure ownership.

Both actions illustrate local authorities’ efforts to address accessibility needs and to rationalise public‑housing assets in Italy.
