Italian towns Viterbo and Vercelli clash with officials over local transport plans

She said resident protests highlight how the redesign narrows carriageways and disrupts traffic near schools, shops and the university in the Pilastro district, and criticized Mayor Chiara Frontini for proceeding without broader consultation.

In Piedmont, regional councilor Simona Paonessa (PD) submitted a formal inquiry to the regional government demanding a permanent dialogue on recent bus‑service cuts affecting Vercelli and Biella. She linked the reductions to a shortage of drivers and a lack of coordination with the local mobility agency, warning that the cuts hinder daily commutes to work, school, health facilities and rail connections. Paonessa called for a standing forum with municipal leaders to pre‑emptively discuss service changes and find sustainable solutions.
