Italian travelers report high anxiety regarding mobile data access abroad

A recent study by eSIM provider Saily reveals that nearly half of Italian travelers feel insecure when abroad without a mobile data connection. Specifically, 46% of Italians who traveled internationally in the last two years stated they would not feel safe without mobile data access, with 17% describing themselves as feeling deeply vulnerable. This figure is the highest among the eight countries surveyed.

In comparison, 41% of Spanish travelers reported similar concerns, while only 19% of travelers in the United States felt they would be unsafe without data. The global average for travelers feeling insecure without a connection stands at 29%.

Experts suggest that mobile data has transitioned from a convenience to a fundamental security tool for modern travelers, used for navigation, accessing bookings, translating languages, and contacting emergency services or family. The lack of connectivity is increasingly viewed as a significant source of travel anxiety.
