Italian trucking groups ask for three‑month extension of diesel tax credit

The CNA‑Fita Marche federation and other regional transport associations have asked the Italian government to extend the deadline for using the diesel tax credit introduced by the 2026 "Decreto Carburanti". They propose moving the expiry from 31 December 2026 to 31 March 2027, giving small haulage firms more time to complete customs and tax‑authority checks and to align the credit with the first major fiscal filing window of the year.

The credit, worth about €0.15 per litre and reimbursing roughly 70 % of the extra diesel cost, translates to an estimated €1,400 per vehicle for a typical 26‑tonne truck that runs 100,000 km annually. Without the extension, many operators risk being unable to claim the benefit before the deadline, especially as the credit cannot be offset against IMU and may be lost if the November tax advance has already been paid. The request does not seek to broaden the pool of beneficiaries or increase the credit amount, only to avoid bureaucratic and timing constraints that could further strain an already vulnerable sector.
